Disston D-8 Panel Saw Replica
Alamo Toolworks is proud to present our replica of the Disston D-8 Panel Saw.
Handle material: Palo Santo / Argentine Lignum Vitae / Verawood. Screws are set in stainless steel bushings that pass through the blade and anchor it to the handle in reamed tapered recesses in each side of the handle. These bushings are hand fitted one at a time. Tired of having to re-tighten your saw handles? My exclusive bushing system virtually eliminates the need!
Blade: 21.25" 0.035" thick at the tooth line 1095 steel. Taper ground, hammer tensioned and cryogenically tempered. Toothed 12 points per inch with 0.0025" set per side filed crosscut. Rake angle of 12 degrees with 20 degree fleam angle and 0 degree bevel. Hand set and sharpened. If you want this saw re-filed rip let me know before I ship it - no charge to change the filing.
The saw screws are ATW large size (9/16" heads and nuts) X3 plus the 13/16" medallion.
As far as I know I am the only saw maker offering cryo processed blades and handles secured with bushings. The primary advantage conferred by cryotempering is increasing the toughness and scratch resistance of the blade. Springs that are cryotempered maintain their tension longer and brake rotors that are cryotempered last up to twice as long! Bushed blades are much less susceptible to becoming loose with seasonal variations in temperature and humidity.
Why has the saw making world not incorporated these innovations until now? Because they're expensive and time consuming to implement. If you want a cheap saw there are many options, but if you want an heirloom to pass on to future generations this is your saw.
